Courtney Simms

Courtney Simms

My artwork explores shape, movement, texture, shadows, and reflective light in landscapes and water. Experimenting with color is very important in my work. I use color to evoke a sense of depth, to stimulate the senses, and to represent light and shadow. My imaginative variations of color are spontaneous, dramatic, alive, cheerful, passionate and also calming, soothing, and tranquil.
Courtney Simms, 2008

Courtney Simms is a self-taught Canadian abstract artist who has been drawing since she could hold a crayon. Originally only interested in pencil and charcoal drawings it was not until 2005 that she introduced painting with acrylics into her artist repertoire. Her unique method of using her fingers to paint the majority of the composition sets her apart from other artists.

Courtney Simms is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has attended workshops by Alan Wylie, Mike Svob and Amanda Jones. Her work can be found in private collections across Canada and the USA.

In 2007 Paul D. McNair President of the Parkinson Society of the Maritime Region personally selected Courtney's "Tulips" canvas giclee prints to be presented as awards for their top volunteers and donors of the year.
